On, Friday, May 12 around 8pm, Tonya was thinking about baby girls. She said:

Today, Tonya Beeler had a little Cosette baby girl at around 1 something this afternoon. She weighs in at 8 lb. and 3 ounces, a good, healthy, big baby size. You can see a picture here. I’m sure there will be more to come. Baby!

Someone opened their mouth to speak, but lydia said "Absolutely precious. Congratulations, John and Tonya! Welcome, Cosette Banana!"

Then, heater said "happy 1st mother’s day tonya!"

On, Friday, May 12 around 8am, Tonya was thinking about text messages. She said:

This morning John sent me a text at 5:17 am. At that point, Tonya was 7 cm dilated (yea tonya) after a rough night. John says she’s doing amazing, being a real queen about it! So go, Tonya, go!

On, Thursday, May 11 around 5pm, Tonya was thinking about updates. She said:

Tonya might be kinda starting labor as of 5:15 pm….

njc screamed "Now what. . .now what?! We haven’t had news in 14 hours!"

Someone coughed quietly. heater agreed "must. know. if. banana. has. come. the suspense is killing me! c’mon banana!!"

On, Thursday, May 11 around 2pm, Tonya was thinking about phone calls. She said:

Also, you’re welcome to call in the next hour or two. I can’t promise we’ll answer as our phones don’t really get service, but it might be fun to run through a bunch of fun voicemails before getting p-ed up.

Tonya’s cell: 317-439-2063
John’s: 317-635-9268

On, Thursday, May 11 around 2pm, Tonya was thinking about updates. She said:

The cervidil is done, and after a yummy hospi-lunch, they’ll be firing the pitocin in.

We’re a little scared, as pitocin is reportedly quite painful and Tonya was wanting to avoid pain medication as much as possible.

So far though, Tonya has taken it like a champ. She’s had what the nurse has called “moderate contractions,” and she appears to be in “moderate” pain.

Soon!

Tonya has also banned fruit jokes in the labor room.

I kid.

On, Thursday, May 11 around 1pm, Tonya was thinking about John’s Update. She said:

No news yet. Tonya is being fed a steady diet of cervidil. We were reminded why we both hate hospitals. Everything is so slow. We checked in at 8 and it was 1:30 before they gave Tonya the first cervidil dose, after several persistant but polite reminders from your’s truly.

Ask for a menu and you get it an hour later – then two hours later you get the food.

Clearly, things are slow (since I’m writing this email). She’s experiencing minor contractions but nothing significant. They’ll give her another, bigger dose of cervidil at 1pm, or start the pitocin. If they don’t start at 1pm, they’ll wait antother 12 hours. Yay.

The good news? We got to watch Lost uninterupted last night.

On, Thursday, May 11 around 10am, Tonya was thinking about In need of update. She said:

Hey, it’s Amy. So as of now, I haven’t heard anything from then. If you have let me know.

On, Wednesday, May 10 around 7pm, Tonya was thinking about birthin’ a baby. She said:

Okay kids. Here we go. The bag is all packed and we’re headed to the hospital. One of the nurses called me this morning around 10:30 am to ask why I hadn’t shown up to be induced yet. “Uh”, I said, “8 PM”.
Let’s hope this doesn’t say anythiing about how this whole thing is going to go down.
Amy has agreed to keep you all posted, so blame her if you don’t hear anything!

On, Tuesday, May 9 around 2pm, Tonya was thinking about Franey Girl. She said:

When Franey came to live with us, she had already had her name changed twice (clearly because she was part of a witness protection program) and had survived a tornado. Quite an adventure for such a tiny little ferret.
Today, we had to say goodbye to that little ferret. She had been losing weight for a while now and had a noticeable growth in her tummy. As you can see in the picture, she’s never been a large ferret. She probably never peaked past 3 pounds. And this past week, she was literally skin and bones.
So, when the CPH took her into the vet this morning, we weren’t really expecting good news. And we didn’t get any. She had a tumor that was pretty much taking up her whole body. She was in so much pain, she was gritting her teeth. The CPH came and picked me up. She and I shared a raisin. Then we took her inside to say goodbye.
And it never gets any easier.

A hush of silence fell across the room. heater whispered "i’m sorry. :( my mom and dad just had to have my cat of 17 years put to sleep. and even though she lived with them and not me, it was still hard."

A hush of silence fell across the room. njc shouted "Banana’s coming today!"

Then, JR said "Now I’m so sad for you. This is a vicious cycle we are in isn’t it?"

On, Monday, May 8 around 1pm, Tonya was thinking about nope…still no baby…. She said:

Yep. Still here. At least until Wednesday night. Or earlier if Banana decides to cooperate. As the CPH was driving me to work this morning after the latest doctor visit, I lost it. I can’t explain why, but I feel, somehow, that I’m not doing something right. And I have no idea how to fix it. I feel like a bit of a failure of sorts, not being able to deliver my baby without the help of drugs.
But I’ll get over it. Don’t you worry about me. I’m a tough cookie.

Someone coughed quietly. njc protested "You are doing exactly everything you should be doing. Your child is just unhurried—a great quality in a person I believe. I wish I could be there right now; know that I’m thinking about you guys like crazy and sending lots and lots of positive thoughts your way."

On, Thursday, May 4 around 9am, Tonya was thinking about wishing her friend a happy birthday. She said:

He’s cool BECAUSE he wears a pink towel. Happy Birthday, James!

Everyone looked at the floor. Then, lydia said "When will I get to say “Happy Birthday, Banana?” "

On, Wednesday, May 3 around 11am, Tonya was thinking about the market at the market…. She said:

The local farmer’s market opens today at the City Market. The CPH and I try to go every week. The menos bring their baked goods and the green thumbs bring their flowers and it’s great fun.
We’re going today to walk and take some ganders (there just isn’t much out in the way of veggies just yet). Maybe it’ll help set things in motion!

njc smirked "You know what else sets things in motion. . ."

jamie suggested "Scrubbing the floor on your hands and knees? Of course, that sometimes sets other things in motion as well…which could in turn set labor in motion….Nevermind."

SMWB said "the image that aroused the wolfman that freud wrote about was a woman scrubbing."

Someone opened their mouth to speak, but Matthew said "I’m not a hairy man for no reason."

On, Tuesday, May 2 around 10am, Tonya was thinking about worrying. She said:

I’m not accustomed to worrying. I usually leave that up to the CPH. He’s got worrying down to a madness. We’re talking hours-before-the-sun-rises-he-can’t-stop-thinking-about … madness.
But last night, I started to worry. I started to worry about having my labor induced. I started to worry about what that would mean for my desires to not have an epidural. I started to worry about, if I chose not to be induced, what kind of risks I would be taking for my baby.
Worrying is no fun. C’mon Banana, won’t you help a mother out?

Someone coughed quietly. JR said "Have you tried all of these: http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,5329,00.html"

JR said "This might work as well: Raspberry Leaf Tea – Rasberry leaf tea is not actually known for it’s labor inducing properties, but it is believed to be helpful in toning the uterus and helping with labor. Cinnamin stick tea – Take cinnamin sticks and boil them into a tea and drink. It actually tastes good so even if it doesn’t bring on labor it may help you to relax."

Kate said "I know you have heard this a zillion times, but it helps me to remember that women have been doing this thing (having babies) for hundreds of thousands or depending on your theology, millions of years and I think it was your husband that put it, “we’ve only been messing with the delivery process for about the last forty years.” So the likely outcome is that your body will sense that it’s time to not have a baby inside it anymore and begin the process of kicking him or her out. And I’m sure, whether you go au naturalle or with lots of pricks and kneedles, you and the baby will do marvelously. For, at the risk of sounding slightly less feminist than normal, this (among other things) is what you are made for."

On, Monday, May 1 around 3pm, Tonya was thinking about wishing her friend a very happy birthday. She said:

I know I use this picture way too much, but….really…how can I not?!?

Happy Birthday, Hary!

On, Monday, May 1 around 10am, Tonya was thinking about the update of the banana. She said:

Sorry to all whose birthdate guesses have come and gone. The banana is just hanging out, nice and cozy like. We did another NST this morning, where I sat in a chair with monitors belted around my tummy and I had to press a button everytime I felt the baby move. It’s not a particularly fun thing to do and laying on my back makes me a little queasy. So let’s all hope that the banana decides to arrive before I’m forced to do another next week.
The monitoring lady said that I was having a few signs of irritability of the uterus (very small contractions), but I swear I couldn’t feel anything. Our doctor says that it’s quite possible that I’ll be one of the few lucky ones who just don’t feel that much pain. I’m not getting my hopes up. I’m expecting pain.
So, a date has been set for inducing the banana’s arrival. If it doesn’t happen before next Wednesday night (May 10th), we’ll be checking into the hospital around dinner time. Let’s all think happy labor thoughts so it happens before then. Deal?

Everyone looked at the floor. Then, JR said "Here we go Banana, here we go! CLAP CLAP"

Someone opened their mouth to speak, but njc whispered "Banana, if you come out nice and easy, I’ll give you a cookie."
